March 25 - March 25, 2024

João Tasso de Sousa, LAETA researcher and head of the Underwater Systems and Technologies Laboratory, will give a lecture on "Maritime Robotics and Ocean Exploration: where are we and where are we going?" at Digital Futures, in Sweden, on March 25th. The session will be broadcast via Zoom (find more information here).

The lecture will address several topics and invite reflection. One of the themes concerns the pressing need for a sustained presence in the oceans that will help us to understand and monitor how key issues such as climate change, ocean acidification, unsustainable fishing, pollution, waste, loss of habitats and biodiversity, shipping, security, and mining are affecting global ocean sustainability and stewardship.

Topics related to robotics and maritime technologies will also be introduced and the experience of the Underwater Systems and Technologies Laboratory will be mentioned.
