NewFrac Conference

News & Events
May 07 - May 10, 2024
- Porto (Portugal)

The NewFrac Conference on New Computational Strategies for Fracture will take place in Porto (Portugal) on 7-10 May 2024 and the final deadline for submission of abstracts is March 14th. Abstracts can be submitted here and registrations in the NewFrac Conference are also open, here.

The conference is organized within the ITN Project NewFrac and is open to any research topics on new computational strategies for fracture problems, with special focus on Phase Field models for fracture and Finite Fracture Mechanics. Also, since this conference results from a doctoral training network, early-stage researchers and students are expected to be an important share of the NewFrac Conference.

A number of fellowships for students attending the Conference will be offered by the network, priority given to students whose studies are not framed in funded activities. Submit your application here.

The conference will feature the following plenary lectures:

Can machine learning help computational fracture mechanics?

Professor Laura de Lorenzis (ETH Zürich)

Exploring Deformation and Fracture in Transformation-Induced Plasticity Alloys: A Multiscale Modeling Approach

Professor Francisco Pires (University of Porto)

The stress-at-a-distance failure criterion applied to thermosets

Professor Thomas Pardoen (Université catholique de Louvain)

Multiscale simulation of fracture and fatigue in composites with data-driven acceleration

Professor Frans Van der Meer (Delft University of Technology)

This program will be complemented by contributed talks from the participants.
