March 21 - March 21, 2024
- INEGI | Porto (Portugal)

The INEGI auditorium will host a seminar on Collaborative Academia-Industry Research and Development in Sustainable Aviation. This seminar, which will take place on March 21st, at 2 p.m., will be presented by Afzal Suleman, Canada Research Chair, professor and director of the University of Victoria Aerospace Research Center.

This lecture will present some of the research and development activities in the area of "UAS: Design, Build, Test and Fly” at the University of Victoria Aerospace Research Center in partnership with OEMs such as Boeing (USA), Embraer (Brazil) and Bombardier Aerospace (Canada).

The presentation will outline some of the UAV flight test programs for evaluation of joined-wing and high-aspect ratio aircraft configurations in collaboration with OEMs. This test enables designers to retrieve quantifiable data and provide a qualitative assessment of aircraft handling qualities. It provides new perspectives that may lead to the identification of design issues early in the development process, thus avoiding expensive re-designs at the detailed design phase of the full-scale transport aircraft.

Other topics will be briefly presented, including Hybrid-Electric Propulsion, Advanced Composite Aerostructures, AI-Enabled Guidance, Navigation and Control and Sense-and-Avoid, and the recent Canadian Space Agency sponsored ORCASat project.
