Researcher João Sousa took part in the Ciência 2022 event promoted by FCT as a speaker

LAETA's Integrated Researcher João Miguel da Costa Sousa, who is also researcher from IDMEC - Institute of Mechanical Engineering, was a speaker at the Ciência 2022 event, promoted by FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology Portugal, having presented a project entitled "Analytical Laboratories in Industry 5.0" in the first thematic session on "Industry and Innovation".

The presentation highlighted the work of the LAETA research group on Intelligent Systems and Control for the optimisation of human resources and pharmaceutical equipment through the development and industrial implementation of two digital solutions: a computational tool for the planning and scheduling of chemical analyses and an intelligent automation system for performing laboratory tasks.

This €1.4M research, fully financed by Hovione and which involved a team of more than 20 senior technicians (from LAETA and the aforementioned pharmaceutical company) for 3.5 years, was presented as an example of the support that the LAETA (as the largest R&D unit in Mechanical Engineering in Portugal) can provide the Portuguese business fabric in the digital 5.0 transition towards a human-centred, sustainable and resilient industry.
