LAETA researcher Rui Sampaio won the JSTP Award for Young Researchers, a distinction awarded by the Japanese Society for Technology of Plasticity (JSTP), for an article titled "On the Characterization of Fracture Forming Limits for Highly Ductile Metals Through Radial Extrusion”. João Pragana, also a LAETA researcher, co-authored the paper and both are affiliated with Mechanical Engineering Institute Instituto Superior Técnico.

The 14th edition of the International Conference for Technology of Plasticity (ICTP 2023) took place in France and was attended by around 600 international experts in plastic deformation technology. This conference is promoted by the Japanese Society for Technology of Plasticity (JSTP), has been held every 3 years since 1984, and is known as ‘the Olympic games of plastic deformation technology’.

During the conference, the 'JSTP International Prize for Research & Development in Precision Forging', considered 'the Nobel Prize for plasticity technology', is awarded to two senior international researchers and, for the first time in 2023, the 'JSTP Award for Young Researchers' aimed at three young researchers.

It is with great joy that the president of LAETA, the president of IDMEC and the coordinator of the mechanical technology and industrial management center at IDMEC, congratulate Rui Sampaio and his supervisors Carlos Silva, Ivo Bragança and João Pragana for the prize received.
